Russia presented its national report to the Anti-terrorist committee of the UN Security Council established in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution # 1373 on the struggle against international terrorism. According to the information provided on Thursday by the Department of information and press of the Russian Foreign ministry, the report describes in details steps undertaken by Russia to ensure implementation of provisions of UN Security council resolution # 1373 as well as to counteract international terrorism in general. This document was prepared by the Russian Foreign Ministry with the participation of the Federal Security Service, Foreign Intelligence Service, Defense Ministry, Ministry of Interior, Finance Ministry, Supreme Court, Ministry of Justice, General Prosecutor's Office, Bank of Russia, Federal Frontier service and the State Customs Committee of the Russian Federation and a number of other Russian departments. The Foreign Ministry department's representatives indicated that the document contained information on "a wide complex of measures being implemented in Russia to fight international terrorism including measures to support efforts of the international community in this area, among them, in particular, improvement of national legislation, practical interaction and cooperation with other states". The document also reflected "large-scale events implemented by Russian bodies of legislative and executive power in the area of counteraction of terrorism, in particular, in the area of terminating its financial nourishment". At the same time the representatives of the Foreign Ministry indicated that special attention was being paid to "strengthening of international and legal basis of anti-terrorist struggle, including achievement of harmonization of all global conventions in this area, as well as to necessity to expediently complete the UN work on a comprehensive convention on the struggle against terrorism and an international convention on the struggle against acts of nuclear terrorism". The department representatives stressed that "Russia while considering international terrorism as one of the major threats to international peace and security was speaking in support of unification of efforts of all states with the central coordinating role played by UN and its Security Council in the fight against this universal evil". The Russian foreign policy department representatives indicated that "Moscow was highly assessing UN Security Council Resolution # 1373 and intended to make a significant contribution towards implementation of the obligations contained in it by all UN member-states".
