The police in Kazan (Tatarstan) have apprehended a garbage container thief. The staff of Kazan's municipal utility services were after the unusual thief stealing garbage containers (traditionally kept at designated "dump sites" near residential buildings) for over two weeks. The felon had stolen a few dozens of garbage containers over the period. Municipal cleaners applied to police in early December and even tried to stage a self-styled ambush for the thief but nothing much came out of the effort. However, local residents had on several occasions spotted a GAZ truck near the scene of the crime. Law enforcers established that the truck belonged to a private company engaged in junk glass collection. Policemen went to the company's warehouse and were truly astonished to have discovered dozens of garbage containers there which had not only been duly cleaned and repaired but even covered with fresh paint. The containers were ready to be used for junk glass carriage. The company's owner told the police that he had bought the containers from his brother who kept supplying those on a regular basis and borrowed the company's car for the purpose. The businessman's brother was promptly arrested; he immediately confessed to the theft. The containers are now back where they belong. They look brand new and shiny.
