Russian builders will soon use plastic bottles as main building material. Recently, the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of Russian Academy of Science discovered a way to work used drink containers into tiles, facing panels, doors and window-stills. The bottles even should not be washed before they are turned into building materials, only paper labels should be removed.
As a result of overwork, the bottle material called lavsan (it is also a part of different textiles) decays into two main components – into fluid glycol and hard tereftal acid. Other components evaporate during the chemical reaction. After the two components are mixed up, chemists get a super-strong and very light building material. Moreover, roofs, panels and window frames built of it possess fire protection qualities.
Apropos, the same way of plastic bottles’ overwork could be used soon in production of artificial heart vessels, aircraft details and paintwork materials.
