Pensioner Saves Old Turtle’s Life

Fishermen in Hainan Dao caught an old turtle that was about 500 years old. As China Daily reports, the age of the turtle that was 68 centimeters long and 42 centimeters wide was identified by 13 wide plates on its shell.

A pensioner bought the rare animal for 590 yuans (it is about 71 USD) and set if free. Two aluminum boards were fastened to the turtle’s back to request people not to injure the animal; the boards also described the story of the turtle’s release after it had been caught by fishermen.

As the newspaper reports, a businessmen from Haikou, the administrative center of Hainan, wanted to buy the old turtle for 15 thousand yuans (over 1.8 thousand dollars), but was categorically refused.
