Russia Favours Fairer Doping Control System

Appearing at a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) session now underway in Copenhagen, Denmark, Russia's state sports committee chairman Vyacheslav Fetisov declared in favour of enhanced doping control in sport but underscored the necessity of making its procedure fairer.

In his opinion, doping tests should be conducted prior to major international competitions - world championships, continental tournaments and Olympic Games. And their results should be made public as soon as possible to avoid instances when the information about some athletes testing positive appeared only after their performance at competitions.

Fetisov drew public attention to the fact that the doping control procedure should be humane and not humiliating for millions of honest sportsmen. "WADA should do everything possible to rid doping control of its sporadically depressing effect on sportsmen," said Fetisov.
