World's Strongest Cyclists to Participate in Six-Day Cycling Race "Star Track" in Krylatskoye

The world's strongest cyclists will take part in the Star Track six-day international pair race which is to start on Tuesday, March 4, on the Olympic cycling track in Krylatskoye.

As press attache of the Cycling Federation of Russia (FVSR) Olga Shmytova told RIA Novosti, the elite of present-day cycling, including world champions Jerome Neuville and Franck Perque from France and champions of Europe Danny Stam and Robert Slippens from Holland, will participate in the competition.

Russia will be represented by six athletes. While two duets will be purely Russian - Sergei Osipov/Sergei Kudentsov and Sergei Koulakov/Sergei Sevastyanov, Andrei Minashkin will ride in a pair with South-African Jean-Pierre van Zyl, and Alexei Shmidt with champion of the world Marco Villa from Italy.

According to the press attache, the competition, intriguing as it is, will be decorated with a race in which the members of a duet will alternately race after a leader - a bicycle with an engine. This type of cycling races which is extremely popular abroad is not so wide-spread in our country because of the rather high cost of the bicycle with an engine which is used in it, Olga Shmytova noted.

The race will end and the prizes will be presented to its winners on Sunday, March 9.
