Friday, January 17 saw the opening of Berlin's annual international farming exhibition. Around 1,500 firms from over 100 countries are taking part. The largest exhibition space is occupied by Russia. According to Rosbalt's correspondent, the Russian section of the exhibition was called the 'hit of the season' by journalists from the N-24 TV station.
The exhibition's opening ceremony featured Berlin's mayor, Klaus Wowereit, and German Consumer Protection Minister Renate Kunast. Instead of the traditional ribbon, the minister opened the exhibition by cutting the world's largest cheese, weighing 900 kg, which had been produced by Bavarian cheese-makers for the exhibition as an entry for the Guinness Book of Records.
