The Russian team headed by Vladimir Chagin on a "Kamaz" truck finished third after the third special stage Castellon-Valencia /Spain/ of the Paris-Dakar auto rally. This stage of racing was completed yesterday, on Friday. It was the shortest stage of the 25th anniversary race. The length of this racing stage was only 95km, but it did not make it easy for the rally participants, who had to cover the distance in a classical rally style - "they had to check in and out at the checkpoints neither earlier nor later than the given time".
The Russian team finished after the two "DAF" trucks, driven by Gerard De Rooy and his father Jan. Both of them lead the race, by having won two stages of the racing in a row. Chagin's team lost them 17 seconds.
On Saturday all racers along with their cars and motorbikes will travel across the Mediterranean Sea to Tunisia, where on Sunday they will set of to the fourth stage of the race, 463km long, between the capital Tunis and the city of Tozeur in the Sahara Desert.
