It was a real provocation against Russian President Vladimir Putin and great Russian poet Alexandr Pushkin from some unknown hooligans of the city of Saransk!
Some time ago, the Russian President visited Mordovian capital, where he in particular saw the Pushkin statue established in the very centre of the city in honour of his 200th birthday – in 1999. Vladimir Putin complimented the city administration for its love to the Russian classicist and as a joke greeted the sculpture by touching its forefinger. Since that time, Saransk citizens got a habit to touch the statue forefinger, while passing it.
Though, one of these days, some unknown hooligans tried to ruin the young tradition and tarred the shining forefinger. To Saransk citizens’ honour, it must be said, they did not glad the provocateurs and decided not to wait until the city administration gives an order to street cleaners: they wiped the legendary forefinger with their handkerchiefs.
