Ms. Hydil Halil, a Jordanian post-graduate student, has defended a thesis on the writings of the famous Russian author Anton Chekhov (1860-1904). Chekhov is one of Russia's favourite writers/playwrights, a renowned humanist distinguished for his profound knowledge of human nature.
The young researcher of Russian literature was awarded a PhD degree in philology at the Philological Department of Baghdad University where she successfully defended her thesis.
According to Ms. Halil, in her thesis, titled "Chekhov's Writings in Research by Arab Philologists", she sought to reveal a great positive impact exerted by the Russian literature as a whole and Anton Chekhov in particular on the entire Arab literature as well as on many individual Arab writers and literary scholars.
