A congress of the World Boxing Council (WBC) will be held in Moscow in October 2003. This decision was adopted at the WBC annual congress currently held in Tokyo.
Vice President of the Council Edmund Lipinsky from Russia expressed the hope that the Moscow congress would raise the international prestige of the Russian boxing. In a RIA Novosti interview, the WBC vice president emphasised that Russian boxers had achieved impressive results at the world's largest boxing rings - both in professional sports and within the Olympic Games.
According to Lipinsky, at least five Russian boxers are today ranked among the best ten professional boxers.
