The constituent conference of the public association Union of Youth Organisations of the CIS has been held in Moscow.
The main purpose of the new organisation is to take an active part in building a stable and secure world and to assist the CIS Union of Heads of State in the struggle against terrorism.
In the course of the conference the delegates from the Commonwealth countries pointed to the necessity of uniting different public, political and professional youth organisations at the interstate level to resolve problems of the young and to set up a legislative base oriented to systems guarantee of the legal norms of their protection and support.
The presidium of the Union of Youth Organisations of the CIS includes head of the Russian State Duma committee for CIS affairs and for relations with compatriots Boris Pastukhov, executive secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Russia and Belarus Vladimir Aksenov, and a number of Russian deputies, as well as the heads of youth organisations of Russia and the CIS countries.
The participants in the forum plan to address the presidents of the Commonwealth member countries, as well as state and public structures with a proposal to declare October 29th, 2003, Youth Day of the CIS.
The list of the organisation's plans includes an international festival of the youth and students of the CIS and Baltic countries in Moscow in 2003-2004.
It is envisaged to approve the programme of the Union of Youth Organisations of the CIS at a conference in June 2003.
