On Saturday, Russian traveller Fyodor Konyukhov who is crossing the Atlantic Ocean on board an oared boat all by himself may finish his expedition when he reaches Barbados. The expedition headquarters reports that Konyukhov has beat the world and his own record of covering 505 nautical miles for a week. He has covered 499 nautical miles since November 20th. On November 27th, the traveller's UralAZ boat was 226 miles away from the finish.
Konyukhov's son Oskar, the project manager, has already arrived on Barbados for the necessary arrangements before meeting his father. The customs has promised there will be no problems with the registration - Konyukhov, Sr., will only have to produce his passport, the boat certificate and pay some fees.
The traveller started from the Canaries on October 16th. Now he is going ahead of the schedule of the current world record -- 57 days and 14.5 hours. Konyukhov has all chances to cover the distance in a fantastically short time, 45 days.
