The first stage in restoring the wall paintings by the outstanding Russian icon-painter Andrei Rublev (the turn of the 15th century) is over in Vladimir, the north-west of Russia, reports the Vladimir-Suzdal museum estate.
Andrei Rublev's frescos, that are the responsibility of the museum estate, are located in Vladimir's Assumption Cathedral, a monument on the UNESCO's World Heritage list. A team of restorers under the guidance of State Prize-winner Alexander Nekrasov were engaged in cleansing and fastening the painting. Rublev's frescos, above all the most significant scene of the Judgment Day, have been recovered from a very precarious condition, said Nekrasov.
