Days of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) will be staged in Moscow from November 22nd to 27th, RIA Novosti was told in the MediaSoyuz professional journalist association which is a co-organiser of Days, together with the Guild of Periodical Press Publishers (GIPP).
A seminar on the problems of organisation and control of newspaper associations in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe (November 22nd-23rd), a meeting of the WAN Board (November 25th-26th), and a conference for Russian publishers Effective Strategies of Publishing Business will be held in the capital these days.
More than 60 publishers from all across the world will gather at the Board meeting. The GIPP is a member of the WAN from Russia, and its president Vadim Goryainov is a member of the Board. Meetings of the WAN Board are held twice a year to consider strategic questions of the Association's work and the problems and tendencies of the world newspaper sector as a whole.
The seminar will draw representatives of 14 countries of Eastern and Central Europe. Its purpose is to work out approaches to introducing the principles of self-government in the publishing sector.
The WAN conference will be devoted to publishing strategies, editing marketing and advertising.
The WAN, established in 1948, now unites more than 60 national publishing associations which represent over 18,000 publications. Listed among the WAN's prime tasks is assistance to the development of newspaper and publishing business, to the processes of self-regulation of the press, and to cooperation among the WAN member organisations.
