The international conference Treating spent nuclear fuel 2002: new initiatives for Russia will take place in Moscow from September 8 to 12. The conference is being organised by the Russian Atomic Energy Ministry and Techsnabexport, the ministry's import and export agency.
The conference's main aim is the expansion of international cooperation on dealing with spent nuclear fuel. It will be attended by representatives of over 100 Russian and foreign atomic organisations and firms, and by Russian and US government officials.
The conference participants intend to discuss national programmes for dealing with spent nuclear fuel, international legal regulation of foreign trade deals and the spread of nuclear material, and also international cooperation on putting environmental programmes into action.
