Sappers of the Russian Emergencies Ministry department of the Novgorod Region (Central Russia) have liquidated a shell of the days of the Great Patriotic War days on the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway.
RIA Novosti learned from the press-service of the regional Emergencies Ministry department on Monday that a 150-mm howitzer shell of the days of the Great Patriotic War was discovered on the previous day during repair and building work on the 525 km of the highway.
According to the regional Emergencies Ministry department press-service, since the beginning of 2002, sappers have rendered harmless about 2,000 shells, mines and other ammunition of both Soviet and German make dating back to the Great Patriotic War.
