Russia to improve system of economic education

Russia will improve the system of higher economic and business education, said Russian economic development and trade minister Herman Gref, when speaking in the recently set up Russian State Trade Economic university of the Economic Development Ministry, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

The demand for high-level economic education will be growing, he stressed.

"At present employers of prosperous commercial companies impose rather tough requirements, and the state structures do not lag behind," the minister said.

The new university, headed by prominent Russian politician Sergei Baburin, seeks to educate specialists with a degree in economy who will meet the highest modern requirements and standards, Gref emphasized.

When touching upon the improvement of the business education system in Russia, he pointed out that the country so far lacked an outstanding business school. Yet not every developed European country had such schools, he added. The ministry intends to create a business school in the near future, together with some international commercial structures, Gref explained.

The school may be created in Moscow, the Moscow region or in St.Petersburg, he added. The ministry has already started consultations with the local administrations.
