Only 5 percent of Russians think that Georgia is trying to fight Chechenrebels in the Pankisi gorge. These are the results of a public opinion pollconducted by the Russian VCIOM Center for Public Opinion Research among1,600 Russian residents in 83 cities and settlements in 33 regions onAugust 21-27. These results are accurate within 3.8 percent.Eleven percent of respondents believe that Georgian authorities are notable to fight rebels and a third of those interviewed (35 percent) are surethat Georgian officials do not want to struggle against terrorists.
