Ivanovo region to host 8th Zerkalo Film Festival on June 10-15

The 8th International Film Festival named after Andrei Tarkovsky, "Zerkalo," which translates into English as "The Mirror," will be held in Ivanovo, Ples and other cities of the Ivanovo region on June 10-15, 2014.

"Everything related to Andrei Tarkovsky is sacred for me, it is very important in my life, so I would be happy to go there, - actor and director Nikolai Burlyaev told Pravda.Ru - I sincerely wish the festival lives up to the highest level of the planetary genius that he is. This is a responsible event, there must be special selection of films. Andrei Tarkovsky himself did not praise much in the world of cinematography of his time. He accepted only 5-6 names. I know and remember those names, he would repeat them to me. Fellini, Antonioni, Bresson, Bunuel, Akira Kurosawa, Bergman, Andrzej Wajda. That's all. Now cinema is in decline, and so is the Russian cinematography, so it is very difficult to collect a film program worthy of Andrei Tarkovsky's name. If organizers succeed this year, I will be very happy."

The film festival has long occupied a special place in modern cultural life not only in the Ivanovo region. Outstanding masters of cinema of Russia, USA, England, France, Greece, Poland, Korea, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia, Iran, Iceland, Finland, Italy, Tajikistan, Georgia and many other countries have attended the festival. The festival annually demonstrates about 150 films, holds more than 50 creative meetings; about 25,000 people visit various events at the festival, and their number constantly grows.

"I'm lucky, because I was at Zerkalo Film Festival the year, when one of my favorite actors, the brilliant Ralph Fiennes, came there as the chairman of the jury. It was very interesting for me to see how he exists in life, communicates with people, shows himself in profession, performing certain duties. It was a very pleasant experience, film critic Maria Bezruk - told Pravda.Ru. - As for the festival itself, the most vivid impression, I think, not only for me, but for everyone, who go there, is a trip to Ples. The Volga River, beautiful nature ... I envy all those who will go to this year's festival."
