Conservative law-makers of Costa Rica were surprised to find out that the bill that was adopted on Monday officially legalized same-sex marriage in the country, The Independent reports.
The conservatives quickly came to their senses and wanted to use the right of veto to cancel the new law. However, Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla stated that the fact that someone could interpret the law in their own way, was not enough to cancel it.
The Congress of Costa Rica on Monday adopted the so-called law about young people. The law, among other things, considered the new rules of the Family Code allowing civil marriage. The wording of one of the paragraphs of the code had been rewritten, expanding the notion of marriage as solely a union between a man and a woman.
