A 3rd all-Russian Sambo (unarmed self-defence) Tournament to commemorate Kamchatka's native Vladimir Pushnitsa, a renown sportsman, master of sports of the world rank, has started in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (the Kamchatka Peninsula's administrative centre; the Sea of Okhotsk) on Saturday.
Russia's strongest sportsmen, 72 all told, take part in the competition, the organizational committee of the tournament reported.
The tournament, which is to be finished on November 10th, is held by the Kamchatka regional administration's Physical Culture and Sports Department in cooperation with the Wrestling Sports Federation of Kamchatka. Among honorary guests are Vladimir Pushnitsa's brother Alexander Pushnitsa, a merited master of sports of the world rank, and his son Vladimir Pushnitsa Jr., who came from Omsk.
The solemn ceremony of the competition was attended by First Deputy Chairman of Russia's State Sports Committee Pavel Rozhkov and Governor of Kamchatka Mikhail Mashkovtsev.
