Mackenzie Phillips, the daughter of the Mamas & The Papas singer John Phillips says that she engaged in a 10-year sexual relationship with him.
Mackenzie Phillips revealed details about the alged relationship – which she says started in 1979, when she was 19 – in a television interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show. She has also written about it in her autobiography, 'High On Arrival'.
Phillips, who has a history of drug abuse, reportedly writes that her first sexual encounter with her father took place the night before she was due to marry Jeff Sesler, a member of The Rolling Stones' entourage.
"I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father," she writes in the book, NME.com reports.
It was also reported, Mackenzie Phillips writes that John Phillips, a '60s icon famous for the song "California Dreamin'," made a stunning suggestion as he lay on a bed in Hawaii with her.
"We could just run away to a country were no one would look down on us," the nearly-50-year-old musician told his daughter, then in her 20s. "There are countries where this is an accepted practice. Maybe Fiji."
Mackenzie claims she hardly knew what to say.
"We were lying in bed in a stupor," she writes. "He was fantasizing about living with me, as husband and wife, and raising my siblings, his children, his son, his grandchild as our children.
