Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald Trump, is engaged to her longtime beau, New York Observer publisher Jared Kushner, a rep for the couple confirmed to Us magazine .
“I’m very happy about it,” said The Donald, who once tried to fix Ivanka up with New England Patriot Tom Brady. “They make a magnificent couple.” Ivanka, 27, broke the news on Twitter yesterday: “I got engaged last night . . . truly the happiest day of my life!!!” Boston Herald reports.
The couple, who are both the offspring of wealthy real estate families, have been dating for two years, but split briefly early last year, reportedly because of Ivanka not being Jewish.
But it seems the heiress is appeasing the Orthodox Kushners, and since the July 2008 reconciliation, has been reportedly studying to convert to Judaism under Rabbi Haskel Lookstein at Kehilath Jeshurun Synagogue on the upper East Side, The New York Daily News reports.
Meanwhile Ivanka and Jared appear, genuinely, to be very much in love. "Jared is my best friend for many reasons, largely because I've allowed him to see who I truly am and he still loves me. I don't feel like I have any defensive walls built up around me," Ivanka says. "He's so kind as a human being, I look up to him," she said. "He's a bit of a hero of mine. His ability to remain focused — he lacks an anxiety that's natural for someone his age handed so much responsibility … Sometimes I catch myself looking at him and being thankful that I have grown to a level of personal maturity that I would value so much the qualities he has," New York Magazine reports.
