Rock singer Courtney Love is charged with drug and assault

Singer Courtney Love is to face trial on 30 September on two drugs charges for illegal possession of painkillers.

Love could face up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted on both charges of possessing Oxycodone and Hydrocodone.

The 40-year-old widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, formerly the lead singer of the band Hole, remains free on bail, according to the BBC.

She faces a separate assault felony charge for allegedly attacking a woman with a liquor bottle on April 25 at her ex-boyfriend’s home in Los Angeles. Her arraignment in that case is scheduled for Friday. In July, she was also sentenced to 18 months in a drug rehabilitation programme after pleading guilty to being under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanour charge connected to an alleged break-in at the same ex-boyfriend’s home last autumn.

Police called to her home hours after that arrest allegedly found painkillers there, leading to the felony drug charges, the Scotsman reports.

The singer will face down two felony charges of drug possession on September 30 in Los Angeles. The two charges were filed almost a year ago, after Love was found in the early hours of October 2, breaking windows at the home of ‘America’s Sweetheart’ co-producer James Barber, says NME.

She has pleaded innocent to the charges and recently expressed hope of a plea deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time. No such luck, it seems, marks E-online.
