According to the majority of Russians (51%), Russia should participate in the space expedition to Mars. Twenty-four percent of the pollees believe that such an expedition will contribute to space exploration. At the same time, 27% of respondents say that this is necessary but only with other countries.
The all-Russian poll was conducted by the ROMIR Monitoring research holding on the eve of the anniversary of the US astronauts' 1969 landing on the Moon, and involved 2,000 respondents.
At the same time, 45% of the pollees said that such the expeditions were not necessary, because "Russia has enough problems on the Earth."
Sociologists note that young people aged 18-24 were inclined to answer positively and said that this was necessary for further exploration of space." On the contrary, the older generation was more practical in this issue. They more often said that we should first solve problems here, on the Earth. People aged 25-34 were the most numerous group, which favoured international space exploration.
