Huge Easter cake may go from oven into Record Book

A special kulich Easter cake that has been prepared here may make it into the Guinness Book of Records. The organizers of this city's special Easter festivities have applied for recognition of the feat and have been told by Guinness' Russian office that an Easter cake of this size would constitute a record.

The cake is 1.1 meters in diameter, 1.5 meters tall and weighs 500 kilograms. It is enough for 5,000 people. The recipe calls for 230 kilos of wheat flour, 23 kilos of yeast, 45 kilos of margarine, almost 69 kilos of granulated sugar and 23 kilos each of raisins and extruded coconut meat. It took 20 people a full day to make the cake. The special feature of the recipe is the use of the coconut, which gives the dough its special aroma and taste.

The cake will be made available for tasting by the public on April 11, Easter Sunday.
