Professor Yury Kuznets, who is a prominent Orientalist and political scientist, has completed his book dealing with the 1943 Big Three conference in Teheran. That conference involved the then Soviet leader Marshal Josef Stalin, Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Great Britain and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt of the United States. Meanwhile the Nazis hatched a plot to assassinate the three leaders. However, that plot was foiled by allied counter-espionage officers. The book, which is based on documents alone, tells the story of that abortive German plot. Kuznets' book is to be presented here today at the press centre of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service.
Unlike the famous "Teheran-43" movie starring Russian actress Natalia Belokhvostikova and world-famous Alain Delon of France, this new book is a true story.
The authors of all previous books dealing with this important episode of world history didn't speculate on the subject just for the fun of it. Many documents of that period had remained classified until now. Naturally enough, authors and screenplay writers offered some far-fetched conjectures of their own.
Meanwhile Kuznets' well-documented book, which tells the story of Allied efforts to thwart the terrible Nazi plot, reads like a top-notch spy thriller because such counter-espionage operations involved real-life, albeit no less talented and wonderful people, i.e. intelligence operatives and Resistance fighters, who helped them a great deal.
Kuznets gained access to recently declassified archive materials, which are quite unique in themselves. The book, which has a good style, describes authentic facts, as well as real-life persons, down to the minutest detail.
A husband-and-wife team of secret agents, who directly participated in those events, are to attend the presentation ceremony. Hero of the Soviet Union Gevork Agayants (code name, Amir) and his wife Goar helped thwart Nazi plans, with Goar fearlessly helping Gevork. They were married in 1946, living happily ever after.
