The Mariinsky Theater Orchestra opens Carnegie Hall's 113th season tonight. Conducted by Valery Gergiev, the orchestra is to give a series of concerts in the famed New York City concert hall, the Mariinsky press service informed Rosbalt. The program includes works by Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Lalo, Shostakovich and Prokofiev.
In addition, the Mariinsky Ballet will tour the United States beginning this month with a program of classical works of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Petipa's 'Bayadera,' a program of Fokin ballets and Balanchine's 'Jewels.' The troupe will perform in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Boston and Cleveland.
