Khabarovsk to host international folklore festival

The first international festival of the cultural creative activity of the peoples of the Asia-Pacific Region The Sun Rises in the East is opening in the largest city of Russia's Far-Eastern region, Khabarovsk, (the time difference with Moscow is seven hours) on Monday.

The festival will open with a dramatised procession in the city's main street named after the first governor-general of Eastern Siberia, Nikolai Muravyov-Amursky, and will be continued with a major performance on the embankment of the Amur river, the press centre of the government of the Khabarovsk Territory reported.

Then, for seven days, thematic festivals Rhythms of the Planet, Songs Flow over the Amur, gala concerts, and exhibitions will be held on the stages of the musical comedy theatre, the trade union palace of culture, and out-of-doors theatre and concert stages.

A performance by the song and dance company of one of the most ancient peoples of the Far East - ainu from the Japanese island of Hokkaido - is one of the expected surprises of the festival.

Creative companies and individual performers from the Far-Eastern and Siberian regions of Russia, as well as artistic companies from Japan and China are taking part in the festival too.
