Space supply ship Progress M-48 docked at the International Space Station (ISS)on August 31, bringing Russian astronaut Yuri Malenchenko and his American colleague Edward Lu food and other packages sent from friends and relatives as well as fuel, oxygen and equipment, 2.56 tonnes in all. The astronauts were also sent comedy movies, compact discs with Cossack music and American music and some magazines by the psychological support group of the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems. This was announced to a Rosbalt correspondent by the ISS flight control centre .
Progress M-48 is the third Russian supply ship to arrive at the ISS since the US stopped sending shuttles after the Columbia tragedy. Russia will send a total of four supply ships to the space station this year.
