Italy presents "The Time of Memory" to St. Petersburg

"The Time of Memory" exhibition, due to open Tuesday, September 2, at the "Manege" Central Exhibition Hall in St. Petersburg, will be Italy's present to St. Petersburg, which is observing its jubilee. More than 100 paintings by Jean Luigi Colin, a modern Italian painter, are exhibited at the exhibition organised under the auspices of Italian General Consulate in St. Petersburg.

Marina Dzhigarkhanyan, the exhibit co-ordinator, told RIA Novosti the Italian master's canvases are a sort of research of memory phenomenon. According to Dzhigarkhanyan, the artist interprets human memory not as nostalgia for the past, but as every man's participation in the living, in the history.

"I do my best to fill up, to patch up the gap between The Life and The Art, using not only daily stimuli, but also the very matter for my creations", this is how the artist himself describes this stage of his own work.

Luigi Colin will perform a six-hour show on the opening day of the exhibition to let the audience feel themselves a part of the history and get a better understanding of how he creates. The viewers will be able to see how his personal memorabilia like photos, letters and documents are been transformed into collages.
