Thailand's Days open in St. Petersburg

Thailand's Days are being held in Russia's northern capital on August 26-31.

A statue of Buddha will be handed over to St. Petersburg's datsan. It will be one of the central events of the Days, the organising committee told RIA Novosti. The statue was placed in St. Petersburg in the beginning of the 20th century and seriously damaged during the revolution. After that, it was restored on the money allocated by Thailand's Government.

In addition, the Thai Royal Ballet will perform in the Music Comedy Theatre and the festival of Thai films will be held in the Cinema House.

An exposition featuring some 100 archive documents and photographs from Thailand's National Archives will open in the Aurora Cruiser museum.

Another exhibition, Thailand-2003, will present Thai consumer goods.

A junior tournament on Thai boxing will be held as part of the programme.

A Week of Thai Cuisine is also on the agenda of Thailand's Days. A head-cook of one of the best Bangkok hotels will present national Thai dishes.
