The first large-scale exhibition of the works by the great Russian painter Ilya Repin is successfully held in Berlin. The exhibition "In Search for Russia" was organised as part of the German-Russian Cultural Meetings 2003-2004.
The exposition in the Old National Gallery in the Museum Island features 94 works by the classic of Russian realistic painting. Well known works "The Return of the Prodigal Son" and "The Volga Barge Haulers" and portraits of the painter's contemporaries, composers Modest Musorgsky and Anton Rubinshtein and writers Leo Tolstoi and Maxim Gorky are special attractions of the exhibition.
German art critics highly appreciate the talent of the Russian master and point out "striking realism" of his paintings.
