Recreation of the Amber Room is the central subject of an international conference that opens in the Catherine's Palace of the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum Reserve outside St. Petersburg on Monday, July 28.
Experts are planning to sum up the research conducted by specialists who restored the Amber Room and revived the traditions of amber decorators of the 17th-18th centuries.
The conference will also focus on how to preserve the recreated Amber Room and perfect the amber processing methods.
Participants in the conference will view the Amber Room and an exhibition in the Catherine's Palace, which is dedicated to the 25-year effort to recreate the unique room.
Results of the discussion will be summed up in a compilation of scientific statements made by conference participants.
The event has gathered the leading restorers, artists, arts and crafts specialists, and museum staff from St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Poland, Germany, Denmark and the USA.
The conference is being held under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the Russian Culture Ministry.
