Lomonosov Moscow State University prepares for its 250th anniversary

The Moscow State University must reach its 250th anniversary in 2005 functionally ready, supplied with material resources, restored and newly equipped, Russian Premier Mikhail Kasyanov stated, when opening the first meeting of the organisational committee set up to prepare celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the Lomonosov Moscow State University.

"The university must preserve its leading traditions and work to consolidate efforts in the educational area," Kasyanov stressed.

"A lot has recently been done to improve material maintenance of the professors and teachers," Kasyanov stressed. According to him, it has partly improved Russia's higher education, with MSU being its leader.

When speaking at the organisational committee meeting, MSU Head Viktor Sadovnichy stated that a total of 209 million roubles /1 euro totalling approximately 36 roubles/ had been allocated from the budget to restore the University buildings. Besides, in 2004-2005 the University will borrow 32 million euro from Germany to purchase lab equipment.

"According to the latest published ratings, the Moscow State University firmly holds first place among the country's universities and we must preserve the position in the future," Viktor Sadovnichy concluded.
