France's programme for St. Petersburg's 300th jubilee is unique and original, according to French Consul in St. Petersburg Stefan Visconti. The consul said at a press conference that the programme relates the city's history, but is also aimed at its future. He added that 'French people were present at the city's cradle, and our relationship with St. Petersburg is a real love story.'
The consul said that all the events prepared by France for the jubilee were not simply symbolic concerts and exhibitions, but would allow maximum participation by local residents. In total, France is organising over 40 events, which will feature President Jacques Chirac as well as ministers and mayors.
The French programme will include photographic exhibitions, and concerts in the Mariinsky Theatre, Smolny Cathedral and Philharmonic Hall. A French frigate and naval training vessels will arrive in St. Petersburg on June 13, and August 27 will see an air parade and flying demonstration in the city's skies.
