It is necessary to develop cultural exchange between northern regions, Iceland's President Olafur Grimsson said at a plenary meeting of the Northern Forum in St. Petersburg on Thursday.
According to him, first of all, this concerns "art, music and film festivals, theatrical life and publishing activities." Regions, participating in the Northern Forum, should boost this exchange to preserve national languages and cultures, Grimsson said. "Undoubtedly, our countries possess rich cultural legacy," he stressed. "Northern countries and regions boast a great potential to be offered all over the world, therefore, cultural exchanges and centres in the North extend the world humanitarian experience," Grimsson noted.
According to Grimsson, St. Petersburg is one of keepers of this rich cultural legacy, possessing "great cultural possibilities".
