Women's Motor Race Around the World Will Finish in Siberia

The international women's motor expedition around the world is finishing on Thursday in Yakutsk /the capital of a Russian republic in East Siberia/, on the city's central square.

On February 3rd five women (Oksana Novogorodova, Vera Konstantinova, Natalia Rumyantseva, Elena Baisheva and Anna Vasilieva) started from Yakutsk's central square in two UAZ cars, Chairman of the union of women's organisations of the Sakha republic, Valentina Kirilina, informed RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

Having reached the Pacific shore they crossed the Bering Strait by plane and landed in Nom /the USA/ to continue their trip in rented cars.

The brave women's objective was to go around the world within 80 days. They managed just in time, having travelled around cities and villages of the USA, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, crossed Russia's national border and returned to Moscow passing St. Petersburg, Moscow, Ural and Siberian cities.

The expedition aimed at attracting public attention in different countries to social and environmental problems of the North and Arctic, establishing contacts with women's organisations in Europe, America and Russia's central regions as well as promoting development of international tourism.

The expedition was made under the slogan, "Women for World, World for Women".

The motor race was actively supported by the presidential administration and the government, the union of women's organisations and the non-commercial partnership "International Women's Motor-expedition".
