Japan has today presented St. Petersburg 1000 sakura saplings as a 300th anniversary gift. The young sakura, or cherry trees, were handed over at the city's botanical gardens in a ceremony attended by Governor Vladimir Yakovlev, Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Tetsuro Yano, Japanese Ambassador Issei Nomura, and Japanese Consul in St. Petersburg Terumi Muramatsu.
