George Clooney invests in casino resort

Hollywood actor George Clooney has invested an undisclosed sum of money in a casino and hotel resort in Las Vegas.

Clooney, who played a casino robbing character in the film Ocean's Eleven, will put an undisclosed sum into the planned $3 billion Las Ramblas resort.

"I could end up just losing my shirt on this whole thing, but these guys are pretty good at what they do," Clooney said. "It's going to be an adventure."

The project is expected to take five years to complete.

Clooney declined to say how much money he is investing in the project but added he wanted to have a serious stake.

The actor is partners with real estate developers Related Las Vegas and Centra Properties, along with influential nightclub owner Rande Gerber, husband of model Cindy Crawford.

"We want to be real investors, to have some percentage of it," he said, reports BBC News.

According to Seattle Times, the 300-room, high-end hotel will be the centerpiece of the 25-acre, Spanish-themed Las Ramblas development.

"We will have some sort of dress code so that it will feel like you are walking into a more formal Las Vegas of a different age or a classic Monte Carlo casino," the actor said.

The project will also include 1,326 condo-hotel units and 2,764 residential condos. Completion is expected in 2008.

Clooney and Gerber, husband of supermodel Cindy Crawford, will work with joint-venture partners Related Las Vegas and Centra Properties.
