The 5th extraordinary congress of the Rodina (Motherland) party is held in Moscow on Saturday. According to Rodina press service, about 1,000 delegates and guests of the congress will discuss Rodina development strategy, its ideological and economic programs, and determine the party's position on the issues of national policy.
Delegations from a number of foreign socialist-democratic and socialist parties and representatives of organizations of Russian compatriots in CIS countries will participate in the work of the congress.
Rodina leader Dmitry Rogozin will deliver the main report. Several foreign guests, including former German Councilor Helmut Schmidt are expected to address the participants. The delegates will also adopt a statement on cooperation with socialist-democratic leftist parties, members of the Socialist International.
Main concepts of the Rodina's economic program have been recently published in an article Economic War written by Dmitry Rogozin. The author harshly criticizes the current liberal economic course of the government.
"We are not going to stay in opposition for too long. Our goal is to take power in our hands and immediately establish a modern society of social justice, revive the industrial might of the country and its influence in the world," Rogozin writes. In his opinion, "the current course of the Russian authorities does not leave Russia any chances, and we must hurry up."
According to the official Rodina web site, the socialist-patriotic Rodina party has branches in the majority of the 89 subjects of the Russian federation and numbers about 100,000 members.
