Russian foreign ministry: double standards towards terrorists inadmissible

"Double standards" towards terrorists are as inadmissible as attempts at vindicating Nazi collaborators in WWII, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov opined in his article in the Diplomat magazine.

"Giving terrorists access to the public media to voice their misanthropic views is as immoral and unnatural to present-day Europe as parades of the former SS men in the countries claiming to be committed to democratic values," Lavrov stressed.

According to the Russian foreign minister, mankind's duty towards those who paid with their blood for saving mankind from Nazism consists, first of all, in barring the way to ideas of intolerance and racial, national or religious supremacy.

"The unity of the anti-Hitler coalition, seamless relations between various ethnic groups and faiths, tolerance, mutual respect, preserving cultural diversity and open, constructive dialog of civilizations are the principal prerequisites for overcoming the forces of hatred and extremism," Lavrov said.

He emphasized that the experience in international brotherhood-in-arms during WWII gains a special meaning at the time when mankind has been challenged on a global scale, this time by international terrorism.

"The fundamentals of the civilizations have been jeopardized again. The threat can be overcome only through solidarity and mutual trust, as it was 60 years ago," Sergei Lavrov stressed.
