The murder of Paul Khlebnikov solved; criminals arrested

Russian law-enforcement has solved the murder of Paul (Pavel) Khlebnikov, chief editor of the Russian Forbes edition, reported Moscow police Tuesday. "Special operation, aimed at arresting everyone somehow connected to the murder has been executed last night. As a result, two Chechens have been arrested," stated the city's department of internal affairs.

The arrest of both men involved in the Paul Khlebnikov's murder case is going to "shed light" on those behind it. "Both detainees will be questioned today. Their names are not to be revealed yet for security purposes," stated the department.

It was established that both detainees have been holding a man hostage. "We've confiscated three guns; ballistics will have to check whether one of them is the murder weapon," emphasized Russian law-enforcement. (© &to=http://www.itar-tass.com' target=_blank>ITAR-TASS )

Paul Khlebnikov was killed on the eve of July 9th, 2004 on his way from work. An unknown man lowered left car window and shot Khlebnikov several times within a 10-15 m distance. Investigators later discovered nine bullets at the crime scene. A few hours later, that very car was found deserted in one of the Moscow yards. The journalist died of bullet wounds at around 10:00 PM in City Clinic № 20.
