International observers of the Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe (OSCE) will be invited to monitor the presidential elections in Chechnya on August 29.
According to chairman of the Central Election Commission Alexander Veshnyakov, yesterday he discussed this issue with Christian Strohal, director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). "The official invitation to monitor the elections will be sent to the Council of Europe, OSCE, and other international organizations by the Chechen leadership and election commission," Mr. Veshnyakov told journalists on Thursday.
Moreover, Alexander Veshnyakov was invited to be a key rapporteur at the OSCE session on election issues in Vienna in mid-July.
The early presidential elections will be held in Chechnya on August 29 in connection with President Akhmad Kadyrov's assassination in Grozny on May 9.
