Sociologist: People do not want a third term for Putin

A series of telephone polls conducted in March and April in St. Petersburg has revealed that a majority of 49.8% consider the Russian president's main task to be the war on poverty. In addition, the war on terrorism was identified by 25.9% of respondents as one of Putin's main tasks, the creation of conditions conducive to economic growth by 25.7%, and the war on crime by 24.3%. The results were reported to a Rosbalt correspondent by the head of the Social Information Agency, Roman Mogilevskii.

According to Mogilevskii, the main tasks of Putin's second term in the view of St. Petersburg residents correspond with those the president himself has identified as his priorities during the next four years.

Asked how the situation in Russia would change during the next four years, 56% of respondents answered that it would most likely improve. Those predicting a worsening of the situation numbered 5%, while 31% of respondents felt that conditions in Russia would remain the same.

Mogilevskii said that the responses indicated a unity of views between the people and the president. The success of positions taken by Putin was ensured by their popular support. At the same time, according to Mogilevskii, there is a unanimous rejection of a possible third term for the Russian president. 'People don't want a third term, 'he said.
