Avtovaz to present new models in Germany

The AvtoVAZ joint stock company (Volga automobile plant) will take part in the international exhibition "AMI-2004" in Germany that opens on April 17.

The plant press center said the plant will show on its stand all the family of Lada-110, sports prototype Lada Revolution, sports car Lada-112 - Super 1600.

The press center said Lada is very popular among Eastern Germany residents. In 1970-1980s a large number of cars made by this plant were sold there, and it became a family tradition for some Germans.

According to VAZ data, the German market is waiting for the new car, Kalina. The official dealer of the plant in Germany is ready to sell the models of the new family.

The preparation for production of Kalina is being completed, said the press center. Almost all equipment has been produced, welding and assembling systems are being mounted.

The technology of serial production of Kalina is much different from the method according to which other models of VAZ are produced today. Some operations have been automated for the first time. The pace of work of the Kalina assembly line is 60 cars an hour, which is more than any lines of the existing conveyer belt can put out.

Component parts are tested. Over 80 enterprises will deliver them. Some 90 patents have been issued. Some 550 different parts will be sent to Togliatti from other Russian cities.

The new model is created with account for Russian and international safety, toxicity and other standards. Some 30 new materials will be used to produce Kalina. A lot of tests have been made, prototypes were assessed by 420 parameters. Tests have been completed by now.

Serial production of Kalina is to start in November 2004.
