The construction of the Aginsky gold mining enterprise by the Kamgold company has been suspended because of a protest from the prosecutor's office, reported the Kamchatka league of independent experts.
After an inspection by the Kamchatka region prosecutor's office, the leadership of the regional natural resources and environmental protection department was instructed to suspend the construction of the enterprise until it receives a positive review from a state ecological inspection.
According to the Kamchatka region environmental prosecutor, Alexander Teplyakov, the leadership of Kamgold violated the requirements of the federal laws "On Environmental Protection" and "On Ecological Examination." The development project for the Aginsky gold ore deposit was made in 1995, but the positive conclusion of the ecological examination was not received yet.
The Aginsky gold and silver deposit in the Bystrinsky district of the Kamchatka region is near the Bystrinsky nature park and the Ichinsky preserve. The Bystrinsky park is included by UNESCO in the list of the world legacy parks. Its exploitation, experts believe, may do an irreparable damage to the unique nature of Kamchatka.
