More than 90,000 women serve in Russian armed forces

At present more than 90 thousand women are serving in the Russian armed forces. The Defense Ministry press service told Rosbalt that women currently hold posts as officers, ensigns, warrant officers and contract soldiers in the army. Of approximately 4.5 thousand female officers, almost 400 have the rank of colonel or lieutenant colonel. More than 900 have the rank of major. The average age of female officers is 35. All female officers have high educations. Approximately 72% are located in the medical service, 7% in military communications, 4.5% in financial services and 2% in military translating and interpreting. Most women serve in land, air and rocket forces. More than 1600 women have been decorated.
