'The mass media need to be more scrupulous in reporting the results of terrorist acts,' Boris Gryzlov, the speaker of the State Duma, told reporters Thursday in commenting on Deputy Valery Komissarov's proposal to ban the showing on television of the bodies of those killed in terrorist acts. 'One has to protect the viewer,' Gryzlov said.
The speaker noted that the problem has been discussed before. 'I took part in a meeting with the heads of the main TV channels and press after the 'Nord-Ost' tragedy," he said. 'We noted then that what had been shown on TV significantly hurt the work of the security organizations in that it amounted to letting the terrorists know what the forces of law were planning.'
